MEET THE INNKEEPER

Christine Pyanoe opened Aubergine in 2015, the fulfillment of a lifelong dream to run a Bed and Breakfast in a grand Victorian home. After spending summers in her 1984 Airstream Sovereign on Keuka Lake, Christine decided to retire from teaching in New Jersey and move permanently to the Finger Lakes. It took a year to renovate the home, which was built in 1869. The name Aubergine, which means “eggplant” in French, is a play on words:  l’auberge is the French word for inn; l’auberge de Christine is Christine’s inn. The colors purple and green figure prominently inside the home.

The three guest rooms reflect Christine’s three favorite travel destinations:  France, Italy and the Finger Lakes, and years of collecting antiques add to the Victorian décor. In addition to her background of teaching French, Spanish and English as a Second Language, Christine also earned a Masters degree in Hospitality Management and is a Certified Specialist of Wine. Her passion for wine and  familiarity with Finger Lakes wineries ensure that guests receive personalized tips for their wine tasting adventures.

An avid gardener, Christine's pride and joy is the yard, where she grows an array of vegetables, berries, and flowers. Above all, She enjoys sharing her enthusiasm for the Finger Lakes and the many attractions and natural wonders with her guests.
